Experience
- Dr Tan Yew Oo previously served as a Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Medicine, as Chief of Medicine at the National University Hospital (NUH), and as Head, Division of Hematology-Oncology. He was a tenured faculty member at NUS from 1978 to 1993 and was instrumental in establishing the specialty of Medical Oncology at Singapore General Hospital and later at National University Hospital during that period. He has mentored and taught a large number of physicians, including many famous medical oncologists in Singapore.
- Dr Tan Yew Oo remained involved in medical education and postgraduate training until entering private practice. He worked on the Specialist Training Committee of Medical Oncology at the Academy of Medicine/Ministry of Health in Singapore, as Chairman of the Medical Research Council’s National Committee on Cancer Care, and as a consultant to the Health Science Authority. He was an examiner for the Master of Medicine (M. Med) program and served on the Singapore Health Services Board of Directors from 2000 to 2006. He continues to be involved in clinical cancer research and participates in Phase III clinical trials evaluating novel anticancer agents. He enrolled patients in several international phase III clinical trials including PTK 787 in Confirm 1, lapatinib in breast cancer, IPASS in non-small cell lung cancer with Iressa, and E7389 in breast cancer. He is currently recruiting patients for many ongoing trials involving the use of neratinib in the treatment of breast cancer, oral talactoferrin in the treatment of lung cancer, and nimotumumab in the treatment of metastatic brain disease. Dr Tan Yew Oo has authored several publications and been invited to lecture at regional and international medical conferences. He continues to be invited to lecture at several medical conferences and workshops on a local and regional level.
