- Dr Jim Teo Yeow Kwan is a pulmonary physician and intensivist in Singapore, where he practices at Gleneagles and Parkway East hospitals.
Dr Teo Yeow Kwan Jim earned his M.B.B.S. from the National University of Singapore. He then completed his internal medicine training and earned the M.R.C.P. (UK) and M. Med (Internal Medicine). He continued his education at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he received further training in respiratory medicine and intensive care medicine (TTSH). Dr Teo is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the Academy of Medicine (Chapter of Respiratory Physicians). He is also a European Respiratory Society participant.
Dr Teo Yeow Kwan Jim continued his intensive care medicine training as a fellow at Australia’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he was mentored by Professor Peter Vernon van Heerden, president of the College of Intensive Care Medicine. He is a current member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and holds a European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC). Dr Teo was a consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital prior to joining private practice. He oversaw patients in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), including seriously ill H1N1 patients and patients from the Johns Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre. He also pioneered the MICU’s first bedside percutaneous tracheostomy. He cared for critically ill patients on non-invasive ventilation in the hospital’s Non-invasive Unit. Dr Teo also saw patients with tuberculosis in the TB Control Unit. - Dr Teo Yeow Kwan Jim received the Courage Star Award in 2003 for his contributions during the SARS outbreak. Dr Teo was named as an intensive care medicine teacher by Singapore’s Specialist Training Committee. He taught intensive care medicine courses in a variety of public hospitals and was a clinical instructor at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Dr Teo Yeow Kwan Jim teaches courses such as Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Fundamental Critical Care Support.
Dr Teo has clinical experience managing patients with lung tumors, pneumonia, asthma, persistent cough, interstitial lung disease, sleep disorders, and non-invasive ventilation. He has published articles in peer-reviewed publications both locally and internationally. Additionally, he has delivered papers at both national and international conferences.
