Professional Statement

Dr Hall is a psychiatrist and anthropologist whose research and therapeutic interests include, among other things, drug use disorders, mood disorders, personality, sexuality, and HIV. His certifications include adult psychiatry and addiction medicine. In 2011, he became a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Behavioral & Addiction Medicine (CBAM) and subsequently an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine. He obtained his AB from Harvard College, followed by his MD and PhD in psychological anthropology from UC San Diego. Before his adult psychiatry residency at UCLA-NPI, he completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Chicago’s Department of Human Development and Center on Aging/NORC. His research interests include the social and psychological processes of sexual identity formation, especially as they pertain to addiction and HIV prevention among males who have sex with men, but not exclusively (MSM). His study is conducted in Los Angeles, California, and Prague, Czech Republic. His current study investigates how characteristics of sexual identity influence risk behavior and access to HIV preventive strategies. Additionally, he offers a gender and sexuality course at the New Center for Psychoanalysis.

Dr Hall is linked with a number of local institutions, including Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and UCLA Medical Center. He has been in profession for eleven to twenty years.
