- Dr Wong Nan Soon is an oncologist who practices at Singapore’s Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth hospitals.
- Breast and gastrointestinal cancers are his subspecialty interests.
- Dr Wong Nan Soon completed his advanced specialist training in general medical oncology in 2003, followed by a clinical internship subspecialising in breast medical oncology at Sunnybrook and Women’s Health Science Centre in Canada, where he worked alongside world-renowned breast oncologists such as Professor Kathleen Pritchard.
- Dr Wong Nan Soon was named consultant in 2006 and later promoted to senior consultant and head of the breast team in the department of medical oncology at Singapore’s National Cancer Centre.
- Dr Wong Nan Soon was awarded a prestigious Singapore National Medical Research Council overseas research fellowship in 2009 to gain expertise in phase I clinical trials at Duke University in North Carolina, United States of America. He broadened his subspecialty interests to include gastrointestinal cancers during this year and received further training in biostatistics and clinical research methodology.
- He received the Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigator Award in 2005 and has participated in over 30 local and international pharmaceutical and investigator-initiated clinical trials, as well as holding a variety of institutional and national level research grants. He has published over 50 abstracts and articles in domestic and foreign oncology journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and Annals of Oncology.
- He taught clinical medicine at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine from 2006 to 2011 and acted as an examiner for the final MBBS exams. He has also lectured oncology to advanced diploma nursing students at Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Health Sciences. He was named to the Specialist Training Committee for medical oncology in 2009 and served as an examiner for the medical oncology exit exams during that period.
- He was named adjunct associate professor in the clinical sciences department at Duke-NUS Medical School in 2011.
- He was formerly the director of public and patient education and deputy director of the National Cancer Centre’s division of community outreach and philanthropy. He was also vice president of the Singapore Society of Oncology, a board member of the Singapore Chapter of Medical Oncologists, and chair of the Singapore Cancer Society’s medical care fund subcommittee.
- He belongs to the Singapore Society of Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Singapore Hepatopancreatobiliary Association.
- He has written extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and at major international cancer meetings on breast cancer biology, epidemiology, experimental therapeutics, chemotherapy and endocrine therapy, as well as colorectal cancer therapeutics.
