Johns Hopkins Hospital

Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Hospital is rated third on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll. It is nationally ranked in 15 adult and ten pediatric specialities, and is recognized as having a high performance level in eight adult operations and conditions. It is an institution that provides general medical and surgical care. It is a hospital with a teaching mission. Johns Hopkins Hospital’s assessment also incorporates data from the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital, was opened in 1889 in Baltimore, serves as the teaching hospital for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Johns Hopkins Health System was founded in 1986 and merged with the medical school ten years later to become Johns Hopkins Medicine. The Hopkins Health System also includes five more facilities, including the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Brady Urological Institute, Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Wilmer Eye Institute are located on the main campus. The emergency department is equipped with a separate kid care area. Several buildings on the Hopkins campus use technology to reduce overhead paging, resulting in a more peaceful atmosphere. The Center for Music & Medicine provides therapy for Parkinson’s and dementia patients, as well as specialized care for musicians suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and hearing loss, via a collaboration with Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute. Among the research institutions at Hopkins are those devoted to brain science, cell engineering, diabetes research, and genetic medicine. Hopkins can lay claim to a number of medical firsts, including the invention of renal dialysis, the isolation and crystallization of insulin, and the rechargeable, implanted pacemaker.
