Dr Declan Collins is a plastic and reconstructive surgery consultant who specializes in burns, laser surgery, and scar treatment. In 2008, he started his plastic surgery studies in London, focusing on reconstructive and burn surgery. Fellowships in Burn Surgery at The St Andrews’ Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns, as well as an aesthetic fellowship at the King Edward VII Hospital in London, were part of his education.
In 2015, he passed the FRCS (Plast) examination and became a member of the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. Dr Declan Collins has positioned as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and the Clinical Lead for Research in the Burns Unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after completing a Ph.D. on sepsis and wound healing in burned patients.
Each year, he supervises undergraduate and post-graduate students as part of an active research program that includes participation in international and national studies. Declan has recently started the Laser scar management service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which has increased scar management choices.
Reconstructive plastic surgery and acute and planned burns care in adults and children are his main surgical interests. He collaborates closely with colorectal surgeons who do perineal reconstruction after bowel cancer surgery and dermatologists who perform hidradenitis suppurativa surgery. In terms of aesthetics, he employs lasers to address wrinkles and dyschromia (color changes) in combination with non-surgical therapies like Botox® and fillers.
Dr Declan Collins’s academic interest in emerging technology in wound and scar management is combined with surgical and non-surgical treatments in a unique way. He is well-positioned to offer the complete range of scar therapy choices that are both effective and evidence-based.
