Professional Statement
Professor Aberle teaches Radiological Sciences at the DGSOM and Bioengineering at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering. She is Vice Chair for Research at UCLA Radiological Sciences, where she oversees all preclinical and clinical/translational imaging-related research services. Dr. Aberle has a 35-year track record of accomplishment in imaging research, first focusing on informatics-related research on modern image archiving and communications systems. Her research has focused on oncologic imaging, especially early lung cancer detection, for more than two decades. She oversaw 23 participating institutions as National PI for the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) of the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). The NLST revealed a 20% decrease in lung cancer mortality with CT screening compared to chest radiography and provided the evidence-base for Medicare and third-party payers to offer CT lung cancer screening for eligible current and past smokers.
Dr Denise is linked with a number of regional institutions, including UCLA Medical Center and Veterans Administration Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Medical Center. She has been practicing law for almost twenty years.
