Professional Statement

Dr Moghanaki holds the Stanley Iezman and Nancy Stark Endowed Chair in Thoracic Radiation Oncology Research and is Professor and Chief of Thoracic Oncology at the UCLA Department of Radiation Oncology. He supervises lung cancer patient care and research at the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he maintains a dual appointment. He is the leader of various national lung cancer projects at the VA, such as the VA Partnership to Increase Access to Lung Screening (VA-PALS) and the phase III VA Lung Cancer Surgery or Stereotactic Radiotherapy (VALOR) randomized clinical study. He has served as a member, advisor, and chair of numerous committees for national organizations and advocacy groups, such as the American Cancer Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Radiation Oncology, Radiosurgery Society, Veterans Health Administration, Lungevity Foundation, GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.

Dr Moghanaki graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and received a fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He completed a general surgery internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health. He has been practicing law for almost 20 years.
