Dr Gianluca Bonanomi received his medical education and general surgery training at the University of Pisa in Italy, and then went on to further specialize in surgery in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the United States, he completed a research fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and a clinical fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatrics before being hired as an attending and assistant professor of surgery.
Dr Gianluca Bonanomi has a wide range of experience in metabolic and bariatric surgery, including endoscopic intragastric balloon insertion, laparoscopic gastric banding, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisional procedures.
He was the clinical lead for the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Service, where he received multiple clinical excellence awards for his efforts and for helping to develop a recognized multidisciplinary referral center. He is also an Imperial College London Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer.
He’ll give you an up-to-date, honest assessment of the possibilities, risks, and benefits of advanced laparoscopic surgery for common surgical issues such inguinal hernia, gallbladder stones, acid reflux, obesity, and upper gastrointestinal illnesses.
Mr. Bonanomi is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS), the British Medical Association (BMA), the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), the International Federation for Obesity Surgery (IFSO), and the Medical Protection Society (MPS). Former member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as well as the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EASES) (EAES).
Minimally invasive surgical procedures, robotics applications in surgery, and the metabolic consequences of obesity are among his research interests.
