- AIIMS, New Delhi, granted Dr. Sharma his MS (General Surgery) and MCh (Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery). He received training in Ventricular Assist Device in Berkeley, United States. He completed a fellowship in Paediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and May Ann Knight Hospital for Children in Miami, Florida, both in the United States.
- In his career since 1991, Dr. Sharma has conducted more than 20,000 cardiac surgery procedures involving both adult and congenital heart problems. His specialty is the surgical treatment of complicated congenital cardiac conditions.
- Dr. Sharma was an adjunct professor with teaching and training responsibilities at AIIMS, New Delhi, till 2001. From 2001 until 2007, he served as Senior Consultant of Cardiac Surgery at Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore. He has trained a large number of cardiac surgical residents who are now practicing independently throughout India and the subcontinent. Additionally, he has various publications to his name.
