Dr Reshma M Biniwale graduated from the University of Massachusetts’ General Surgery training program in 2005. From 2005 to 2008, she completed a fellowship in cardiac surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. Her primary focus was Congenital Cardiac Surgery, the reason she spent a year at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr Reshma M Biniwale joined UCLA in 2009. Here, she obtained UNOS certification in heart and lung transplantation as well as competence in the insertion of Pediatric ventricular assist devices, such as whole artificial heart. Dr Reshma M Biniwale has board certifications in both General and Thoracic Surgery. She is the first applicant with fellowship training to get board certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery.

Dr Reshma M Biniwale is actively interested in the DCD (donor after circulatory death) program for children. Her research has focused on mechanical circulatory assistance for children, as well as heart and lung transplants. Frailty and its effect on patient outcomes are of particular concern to her. Currently, she is investigating the effects of normothermic regional perfusion on the cardiac function of donors. Dr. Biniwale offers surgical treatment to all pediatric patients in addition to ongoing care to adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease.
