- Mumbai is where Dr Shailesh was born. He has more than 12 years of expertise in the fields of Organ Transplants and Hepato-biliary & Pancreatic surgery and has finished his education at reputed institutes in Mumbai and Aurangabad.
- Shailesh Sable completed 2 years of training in Liver transplantation (mostly living donor liver transplant or LDLT) with Dr. Vinay Kumaran (ASTS fellow Liver & MOT surgery, Mch G.I &HPB surgery) and then continued as Consultant with him for an additional 3 years at Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
- Prior to that, he completed his DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology & HPB surgery (under the supervision of Dr. P.J. Halder & Prof. S.K. Mathur) from Jagjivanram Western Railway hospital, Mumbai, India, under the Diplomate of the National Board, New Delhi, India, which is a three-year sub-specialization degree course following a Masters of surgery and DNB General Surgery ( 3 years).
- During his five-year tenure with Dr. Vinay Kumaran et al, he was involved in over 230 liver transplants either as primary surgeon or as second surgeon (200 LDLT and 30 deceased donor liver transplants, 20 Pediatric liver transplants (reduced grafts & monosegment grafts), 8 ABO-I LDLT, 1 Dual lobe LDLT, 1 combined LDLT with sleeve gastrectomy,
- Since August of 2018, he has been a member of the Sahyadri organ transplant team. He has participated in almost 150 liver transplants at Sahyadri (70 LDLTs and 80 DDLTs, including 1 Redo-DDLT, 1 combination Liver-kidney transplant, and 1 split liver transplant). Dr. Sable has also actively participated in the combination Kidney-Pancreas transplant program (Under guidance of Dr Anil Vaidya: 8 Kidney-pancreas combined transplants). Over 15 paediatric liver transplants, including decreased grafts, mono-segment grafts, and left lateral lobes, have included him.
- Dr. Sable has a special interest in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic tumors and undertakes sophisticated large liver resections (including Trisegmentectomies and posterior sectorectomies), Whipples’s operation (and distal pancreatic resections), and complex bile duct injury repair surgeries. Dr. Sable participated in the oldest liver transplant program in the state in 2008 (26 liver transplants) at Jaslok hospital and research centre in Mumbai, under the supervision of Dr. Sanjay Nagral.
- Dr. Sable has a strong passion for research. He has published in numerous international and domestic publications. Recently, he published an article in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology titled “Liver Regeneration in Donors.” This is India’s first paper on liver regeneration.
