- 1992 marked Dr Subodh M Shetty’s graduation from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. His orthopedic education began at KMC in Manipal and JNMC in Belgaum. Dr Subodh M Shetty worked with Professor Shantharam Shetty at the city hospital and research center in Mangalore. Worked as a spine fellow at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai under the supervision of professor P S Ramani. In Japan, he received training in minimally invasive spine surgery at Fujita Health University. In Germany, he received training in pediatric spine surgery and deformity correction. He has attended international spine surgery conferences in Japan, Switzerland, and the Netherlands to stay current on latest developments. He is a senior spine consultant at the Apollo, Promed, and Sagar hospitals in Bangalore. He is an expert in treating cervical and lumbar herniated discs with minimally invasive procedures. He has been treating children spine issues involving swayback.
- His greatest strength has been in treating patients who have undergone a failed back operation, or revision spine surgery. His results in repairing spine procedures with complicated spine problems after a first spine surgery have been outstanding, and it is a great challenge because the original anatomy has already been altered. Revision spine surgery accounts for around 30 to 40 percent of his total spine work. Dr Subodh M Shetty believes that the success of spine surgery depends not only on the surgeon’s expertise, but also on the hospital’s infrastructure and the collaboration of anesthetists and physiotherapists. He has operated on over 5,000 patients with disc issues, deformities, traumatic spine injuries, infections, and hunchbacks. His revision spinal surgery is also one of the most extensive in the state.
