- Dr Tay Khoon Hean completed his subspecialty training under the tutelage of two internationally renowned surgeons. He was awarded a Travelling Fellowship Scholarship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow to assist Prof Alfred Cushieri in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland. Dr Tay also spent a year of his HMDP training in hepatobiliary surgery with Prof Bernard Launois at the Pontchaillou Hospital, University de Rennes, Brittany, France. Dr Tay has also served on a number of medical committees both locally and globally, including the World Health Organization’s Academy of Tropical Surgery.
- Dr Tay’s areas of specialization include advanced laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery and surgery of the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and bile duct, with a special focus on complicated gallbladder and bile duct procedures, laparoscopic Nissen’s fundoplication, lap banding for obesity, and large liver resection using French techniques. He also employs cutting-edge pancreas resection methods, including the pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy (PPPD) for pancreas cancers. Dr Tay treats conditions such as gall bladder cancer, liver cancer, and a variety of other hepatobiliary disorders affecting the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and bile duct.
